Week 11//Mrs. Powell

Mrs. Powell is the Assistant Principal of Curriculum for Middle School. She came yesterday and talked to us about how she got started in education and how to handle discipline as a teacher or even a mom. She discussed positive and negative reinforcement for good and bad behavior. She related that to a mom in a grocery store with a little kid that wants gum or candy, and he pitches a fit until his mom finally gives in. She just let the kid know that he can push her to cave in to get what he wants. She just insured that, that type of behavior will happen again. The kid might have to be a little louder or push her farther but he will eventually get what he wants. She also talked about Primary Teachers and how they act in their classes compared to Secondary Teachers. The Primary Teachers are more along the lines of Kindergarted-4th or 5th grade. Primary Teachers always have that positive tone in their voice because the students are younger and react to that. But with the Secondary Teachers they teach 5th grade to your senior year in college. They're more stearn with their voices and don't talk to the students like their 5 or 6 years old. The students respect that more, and the teachers might pull them aside and tell them how they appreciate their behavior instead of just giving them a treat, like you would do with maybe younger students.

Week 10!(:

Discipline in the Classroom!
Discipline takes a big part in the classroom. Students that are always miss behaving or being a distraction takes away from everything in the classroom, from teaching to students doing work. If you spoke to student sin Colleges of Education arounf the nation, you would fine that many of them fear dealing with misbehaviors more than any other part of their future teaching career. The key to effective classroom management is consistency, fairness, and having systems in place that actually work. In order to maintain discipline in your classroom, you should followo a consistent discipline plan. This type of plan can guide you so that you can remain fair, even when you want to pull all your hair out! Much of maintaing control in the classroom begins with the teacher's actions and attitude. This is not to say that students won't misbehave on their own, but there is a reason why the same student will behave in one class and then misbehave in another.
